Cards

I am no stranger to greeting cards, I love them. I like to send them at random to people I like when I find one or two that remind me of them. I like getting post that isn’t bills or things for school so I live this vicariously and send little messages via mail in hope that some will return.

Today I bought two cards, tomorrow I will write them - nurturing is where’s it’s at. Amen.

"Life is nothing without friendship." Cicero

Words of wisdom, from many years ago. I truly believe in them too. I wrote today to a friend, our friendship is one of my most valued in my life and yet I feel I have failed at it. Friendships I believe are entirely what you make them, your attitude and presence in your relationships will shape and determine the life your friendship lives. I made a conscious decision today. No more wasting time on silly excuses. Sure life is hectic and busy but time exists somewhere in that whirlwind of activity to cultivate ties and nurture the spirits of the people we love.

Long ago I decided friendship was important to me and so I value the few friends I have. The true, growing old friends. I decided to no longer put effort into one sided and negative friendships. I hate bitchiness but adore a good mindless natter, I am optimistic not constantly scathing and so I didn’t want to fill my friendships with hateful opinion and resentment. Instead I chose soul mates and precious time over the alternative. Sure I have many acquaintances and not all of them are unbitchy :) Hey even I slip now and again, *blows the dust off the halo. But I never expect the bitchiness from friends to be directed at me. So far so good. This isn’t a complaining post rather a contemplative and directional post. A decision to stop whining about how busy life is and get on and be involved in it! I miss out on so much. I miss my friends. Three of them in particular.

So a little pledge, a lot of love and nurturing, phone calls, plans and visits are needed. Starting off with some written words. I wish to kiss this better, with good old fashioned work.

Be inspired and phone a friend!
Some words of wisdom follow, some favourite friendship quotes, leave me your own favourites in my comments if you have time!

She is a friend of mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order. It’s good, you know, when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind.
Toni Morrison

You can always tell a real friend: when you’ve made a fool of yourself he doesn’t feel you’ve done a permanent job.
Laurence J. Peter

“The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand,
nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship;
it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when
he discovers that someone else believes in him
and is willing to trust him.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief.
Joseph Addison

Be A Friend
by Edgar A Guest

Be a friend. You don’t need money:
Just a disposition sunny;
Just the wish to help another
Get along some way or other;
Just a kindly hand extended
Out to one who’s unbefriended;
Just the will to give or lend,
This will make you someone’s friend.

Be a friend. You don’t need glory.
Friendship is a simple story.
Pass by trifling errors blindly,
Gaze on honest effort kindly,
Cheer the youth who’s bravely trying,
Pity him who’s sadly sighing;
Just a little labor spend
On the duties of a friend.

Be a friend. The pay is bigger
(Though not written by a figure)
Than is earned by people clever
In what’s merely self-endeavor.
You’ll have friends instead of neighbors
For the profits of your labors;
You’ll be richer in the end
Than a prince, if you’re a friend

Friendship isn’t a big thing - it’s a million little things.
Author Unknown

A faithful friend is the medicine of life.
The Bible, Ecclesiasticus 6. 16

What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.
Aristotle

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.
I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, who has sight so keen and strong
That it can follow the flight of song?
Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Wigwam bam!

Because it’s cheesy, retro and unbelievably fun, I present

Sweet with Wig Wam Bam.

The reason?

It’s in my head, I bought a cheap non gorgeous one for some literacy work in my classroom after half term… a kinda real life usable punctuation pyramid. But as I was searching I saw and fell in love with some gorgeous ones for children, very expensive they are too! Just thought I’d share them, so here goes.

I found this site called MadMolly, they have some lovely things (not just wigwams!) and are well worth a meander and a gander. All pictures belong to them and I do hope they won’t mind me sharing a few!

It makes me want to be a child again, get out the tea set, the dolls and the sunshine….

And because I love love LOVE this advert and maybe I have contemplated downloading this tune from iTunes - Jona Lewie Presents Man Like Me - You’ll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties - it is shameless and is making me grin like a loon!

Two here form X Factor, both contestants who I wasn’t that bothered about but I really enjoyed their guilty pleasures this week - Katie and Matt :)

Things I love now, always and alately! Mixed with Wednesday wants.

Reintroducing myself.

Danielle.

30 years old.

Teacher.

Wife.

Friend.

Traveller.

Writer.

Lover of all things creative.

Now yet again failing blogger :)

So a few of my favourite things…

INPO

Victoria Wood, her piano, comedy, impeccable writing and timing.

Still makes me giggle like a mad ‘un!

Antropologie, gorgeous fabrics, stunningly cut, quite pricey - don’t yet own anything but I like window licking :)

Dresses
I love, nay adore, dresses. Maxi, mini, cocktail, swishy. sleek, fussy, minimalist, plunging, demure, backless etc, I aspire to be a girlie dress kinda girl. Occasionally this dream comes a little true.
There’s nothing quite as lovely as a night out in a fabulous for you dress. I own a couple ;) A few I am aiming to wear soon (something else about me is I am working on losing weight). So I thought I would share a couple of mine that I will wear minus a couple of pounds or ten :)

1. Is a peach/tangerine coloured batik oriental style dress by Bill Keith, Malaysia . see some pictures of it in this post.

2. Is a gorgeous silver number by Prophecy - you need great legs, wishful thinking is what possessed me.

Image belongs to ASOS, where I bought the dress ages ago!

3. and 4. Are both Coast dresses, one black cut to the knew, a swishy cocktail number; the other a sleek cream silk fitted number with a cerise flower in the pattern of the fabric. Mmmm, lovely :)

I do love dresses and fabrics and all things clothes related, apart from leggings.

Some of my currents wants are -

This Mango full skirt from ASOS (picture belongs to them), very 70s chic, think Love Story…

These very goth inspired short pirate boots from M&S (picture belongs to them)

Damsel in a Dress Kayleigh Maxi Dress via John Lewis (picture belongs to them), the line and the back are amazing, and a bargain to boot (splutters).

Carvela Wolfe boot, knee high, well over the knee, suede wedge boot, too expensive for me, maybe if I save up my pennies! Seen here (picture via Kurt Geiger, where you can buy em).

Enough salivating for one day, will continue this post next Wednesday for more Wednesday Wants.

Peace x
